Jan. 23rd, 2014 03:26 amA small bird hops along the path in front of her, as Raine quietly observes its progress, up until its wings take it to flight, soaring up into the air and towards the secret forest. It's the first night she's been allowed to stay in Heimdall, even if they refused to allow her a bed at the inn. Raine finds that it's a peaceful time for reflecting, as the stars above glitter in the distance beyond the settling evening mist. Tomorrow would face Lloyd with a battle, and they needed to all be prepared for that.
For now, she walks the paths beneath the trees, feeling the nostalgia pour over her like waves. How long had it been? Too long - she steps around some of the wild plants on the ground, knowing she can't allow herself to wander too far. She just needed time to herself, away from the others. The village seemed the same, and yet not the same at all, from when she had last been here; the elves avoided her still, and she didn't want to risk any confrontations.
Her thoughts slowly drifted to her brother, wondering how he was handling being in the town. He had been through a rough time, and she had done the best that she could, and at the very least, he had told her his secret. Even then, there was a slight rift between them, borne from her own actions for his protection. Besides, she thinks, Lloyd would be a better one to comfort him. She could tell that Genis was suffering, with their defeat of Mithos still a lingering ache, but the world would come first, before that hurt could be truly appeased.
Now her steps took her back towards the inn, where a small cooking fire was already being prepared. Regal, she thinks, and it's now that she purposely checks to see if her other friends are nearby.

The sound of the buzzing radio rumbles on like a drone in the background, and it's not long before Raine finally hears it. She feels disoriented, perhaps rightly so. The last thing she remembers is the vision of her mother standing before her in a room filled with mirrors - well, she thinks, it might not have even been Mother, but the situation itself had been too stressful to rationalize. She recalls the sensation of feeling inexplicably trapped, and dimly that her brother had been near, but all those images are soon to fade as if part of a long dream, and that unfamiliar sound fills her head instead, with its persistence. That buzzing...
Frowning suddenly, she opens her eyes fully, feeling sluggish but with a spike of alertness, blinking away the last vestiges of sleep in the pale gleam of the harsh sunlight. What? The unfamiliarity of the location coming to view in front of her is jarring - is it a trap? An illusion? Wariness fills her, but she remains still, her thoughts racing as her eyes carefully flick from one bed to the next. Where are the others? Stranger, stranger - but she forces the calm as she continues to search for familiarity in any of the occupants, though it's not difficult for her to notice that some of them look as lost as she feels.
There is something very, very wrong.
Raine moves to sit up fully, now, taking in the room and all of its features. The nearby window seems like the best place to check for clues, and she needs a few moments to herself in an attempt to puzzle out the missing gaps in her memory before launching into questions, so she rises and walks toward it. A ruined city... could it be Luin? - No, it certainly seemed far larger than that, darker somehow.
The rustling of sheets and panicked conversation that begins in the room behind her catches her attention once more, and she turns away from the window.
